At Spectra Credit Union, our founders were scientists at the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL). And while we may not explore galaxies or delve into the seas, they still inspire us to stay on a constant journey to find better, faster, stronger solutions to empower your financial well-being. Our name reflects the diverse community we serve and our goal to provide a wide range of banking options for members from all walks of life.
Our credit union is founded under the name Naval Research Lab Federal Credit Union to serve employees and family members of the NRL with a financial center conveniently located on the Naval base.
Our Waldorf, Maryland financial center opens to provide access to our ever-growing membership from the broader community.
Our Alexandria, Virginia office opens to provide a centralized facility for our support departments, as well as a public-access financial center.
The credit union is recognized for the first time with a top-level fundraiser award at the Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run to benefit Children’s Miracle Network. The credit union continues to support this cause annually as a top donor.
Our credit union hits a major asset milestone of $500 million in assets, which allows us to enhance our commitment to providing exceptional member service.
As part of our 75th anniversary celebration, the credit union reveals a new name to better reflect the diverse community we now serve.
